WhatsApp response times

"Why do you take so long to reply?" is one of the most common arguments in any chat. The good news: response time is an exact metric and it can be measured. WspWrapped computes how long each person takes to reply and who leaves more messages on read.

The result reveals the real rhythm of the conversation, without arguing from memory or accusing without proof.

What your response time says

Average response time measures the minutes (or hours) between receiving a message and replying. Comparing each person's reveals telling patterns:

  • Fast, symmetrical replies: a sign of mutual interest and availability.
  • One person always fast, the other always slow: a possible imbalance in interest or priorities.
  • Peaks by time of day: reveals when each person is really available.

Response time vs. leaving on read

Replying slowly is not the same as ignoring. WspWrapped distinguishes a late reply (that still arrives) from "ghosting": messages that die with no answer and kill the conversation. Seeing both metrics together avoids misunderstandings: sometimes the person who "takes forever" always replies, and the one who seems fast actually leaves topics unclosed.

How to measure response times

  1. Export the chat from WhatsApp ("Without media").
  2. Upload it to WspWrapped; it is analyzed without being stored.
  3. Check the average response time per person and the by-hour charts.

Frequently asked questions

How is response time calculated?+

It measures the gap between one person's last message and the other's first reply, averaged across the whole chat to smooth out extreme values.

Does it account for sleeping hours?+

Very long gaps overnight show up in the by-hour breakdown, so you don't confuse "asleep" with "ignoring".

Does it work for groups?+

Yes, although response times are most meaningful in one-on-one chats. In groups you'll see the overall pace of the conversation.

Are messages stored?+

No. The calculation uses the chat's timestamps, not the content, and nothing is stored.
